Attorney (Of Counsel)
William L. Portello is an experienced civil litigator, specializing in personal injury claims, business litigation, and consumer transaction litigation.
He is admitted to practice in the states of California and Oregon, as well as in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of California and the Eastern District of California.
A trained mediator, Mr. Portello’s extensive litigation background allows a realistic perspective in assisting clients to resolve their cases. Caring deeply about his clients, he works closely with them to achieve their goals, using proactive and creative solutions to resolve disputes, whenever possible.
Born and raised in Davis, California, Mr. Portello attended the University of California, Davis, and earned his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law. Following graduation, he opened a solo practice, then worked for the Sacramento firm of Thompson, Meade & Nielsen, practicing insurance defense. In 1997, Mr. Portello joined Guichard, Teng & Portello. He divides his time between the Davis and Concord offices.
With a caseload heavily comprised of complex multi-party litigation, Mr. Portello is dedicated to developing cost effective strategies and reaching swift resolutions of legal disputes. Mr. Portello brings a real-world, hands-on approach to litigation, with a solid background in construction, aviation, transportation, and medical issues.
His cases include wrongful death matters, catastrophic brain and spinal cord injuries, orthopedic injuries, and issues related to government tort liability.
Mr. Portello has extensive experience in the field of automotive transaction litigation, working with Consumer Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Business Practices claims arising from vehicle sales and leases.
In the area of construction defect litigation, Mr. Portello represents contractors in the defense of claims involving exterior sheathing, soils issues, concrete, waterproofing, HVAC systems, framing and windows. By working closely with claims representatives, he ensures that his clients’ interests are protected, while controlling costs by ensuring the timely involvement of experts and consultants.
