Mr. Guichard specializes in civil litigation and trial work. He has a long history handling both defense and plaintiff matters in State and Federal Courts. He has a special expertise in matters related to personal injury, wrongful death, sexual assault, elder care and defense of public entities.
Matthew P. Guichard is a nationally recognized trial lawyer and founder of Guichard Teng & Garrett. Centrally located in Walnut Creek, the firm has served clients in Northern California since 1997.
Mr. Guichard is admitted to practice in the State of California, the United States Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and all United States District Courts in California. He earned his J.D. from the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific. After earning his J.D. he earned a Certificate in Advanced International Legal Studies at Salzburg University, Salzburg, Austria. He then joined the Danish law firm of Lars Christensen, Kyed & Partners in Odense, Denmark where his practice focused on international license agreements.
Upon returning from Denmark, Mr. Guichard served as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County, California. During his seven year career as a Deputy District Attorney, Mr. Guichard managed the homicide and sexual assault teams. He has a lifetime Community College Teaching Credential, and taught for a number of years at Los Medanos Community College.
In 1990 Mr. Guichard joined the San Francisco Office of Ropers, Majeski, Kohn, Bentley, Wagner & Kane, where his practice focused on insurance defense, civil litigation and trial work. In 1993 he opened and managed the firm’s Sacramento office.
In 1997 Mr. Guichard formed his own law firm which today is Guichard Teng & Garrett.
Mr. Guichard regularly serves as the Hearing Officer in Coroner’s Inquests through out the State of California. He serves as a State Bar Fee Arbitrator. He is a member of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association. He is the Chair of the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. He is the former Chair of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Advisory Fire Commission and continues to serve as a Commissioner. He is a member of the Walnut Creek Community Emergency response Team (CERT). He is a member of the “100 Club” of Contra Costa County. He is a former President of the Robert G. McGrath American Inn of Court. He is a former Board Member of the Rotary Club of Walnut Creek, former Board Member of Yours Humanly, former Board Member of Youth Homes and a former Board Member of Child Assault Prevention.
Prior to obtaining his law degree, Mr. Guichard spent a number of years employed by major publishing companies in the United States with a focus on marketing and public relations.
